Coached Racing Series

Coached Racing Series

Every Sunday morning until March 24th the NYC will run a coached racing series for dinghies. It will be a series of short sprint style races set up as a pursuit with the slower boats starting first and the faster boats chasing. There will be a full debrief post racing and pointers given whilst racing or in between races.

The series is weather depending and will also take into account other club activities so the running of each Sunday morning will be confirmed (or not) the Thursday prior with the name of the coach in charge on the various class whatsApps. Sailors intending to race can then register on the link below prior to the races. Entry per session is 15EUR. So wether you want to take part once in a while, use it as a full regular training session or take part as a warm up to the DBSC Frosbites racing, join the racing and progress your skills.

Racing is Open to all club dinghies (Optimist, Topper, Feva, ILCA, Aero...). First gun is set for 10.00am and racing will conclude around 12.30. There is no set number of daily races.

Prizes may be awarded at the end of the winter.

Junior Awards Dinner Ceremony – November 2023

Junior Awards Dinner Ceremony – November 2023

The NYC Junior Awards Ceremony took place at the National Yacht Club on Saturday 25th November. The awards night is the evening when our juniors traditionally take over the club.

This is when the achievements of our juniors in summer courses and in National and international events are acknowledged marking the end of the junior sailing season.

In addition, the evening is an opportunity to thank all our instructors and assistant instructors for their great work over the summer and to acknowledge the huge effort they make in ensuring that our young sailors have a fun summer course whilst nurturing a life long love of sailing in a safe environment.

It is also an event when parents can get together. Last Saturday the JB room was buzzing with  parents whilst upstairs the dining room was filled with our juniors.

The evening started for the juniors with spot prizes followed by dinner for both juniors and parents. After the meal, our instructors organised a table quiz with prizes to let the relaxation last a bit longer for the parents. And to finish, there was a selection box for ‘everyone in the audience’ to start the Christmas festivities.

Expression of interest: becoming a keelboat instructor

Expression of interest: becoming a keelboat instructor

With the growing interest in match racing on our 4 Eliotts and learning the skills necessary to sail successfully on our J80s, the club has recognised we need a few qualified keelboat instructors in order to introduce and develop sailors through the Irish Sailing small boat sailing scheme.

If interested in becoming a keelboat instructor, you must already hold a valid instructor certification and go through the process.

Doing this will also re-validate any existing SBSS instructor qualifications (including Senior Instructor) which might be useful for anyone coming near the end of their validity.:

  • pre-entry assessment day
  • 2 days conversion course
  • we are also looking at an added day to obtain the advanced instructor certificate for suitable candidates.

If interested, please fill the form here
