About Junior Sailing
Junior Sailing Mission
‘Lifelong love of sailing for all’
Our aim is to enable a love of sailing for all Junior Sailors, whatever their abilities or goals, whatever the boat, racing or cruising, by motor, paddle or sail, on shore or afloat – for life.
Junior Sailing Overview
The Junior Section of the NYC has approximately 200 sailors, aged 7-18, taking part in the sailing throughout the year and between 160 and 180 sailors taking part in Summer courses.
Sailors take part in the following boats Optimists, Toppers, Lasers, Fevas, 29ers and the Club fleet of Wayfarers, RS Ventures and J80s. They pursue their sailing goals, be they Club, Racing, Performance or Elite through the course, coaching and instructor set up.
There are spring, winter and autumn courses and training for all levels throughout the year.
In addition, we organise an NYC Junior Regatta, Friday Night Racing in early Summer, the September Series in the Autumn and the annual Junior Awards Dinner.
The aim is to bring our Junior Sailors to the sport so that they sail, have fun, make friends, gain skills and eventually go through the Irish Sailing stages to, perhaps, become instructors, either at home or abroad, or make a start to enjoying a life in this sport.
