About Junior Sailing
Junior Sailing Mission
âLifelong love of sailing for allâ
Our aim is to enable a love of sailing for all Junior Sailors, whatever their abilities or goals, whatever the boat, racing or cruising, by motor, paddle or sail, on shore or afloat â for life.
Junior Sailing Overview
The Junior Section of the NYC has approximately 200 sailors, aged 7-18, taking part in the sailing throughout the year and between 160 and 180 sailors taking part in Summer courses.
Sailors take part in the following boats Optimists, Toppers, Lasers, Fevas, 29ers and the Club fleet of Wayfarers, RS Ventures and J80s. They pursue their sailing goals, be they Club, Racing, Performance or Elite through the course, coaching and instructor set up.
There are spring, winter and autumn courses and training for all levels throughout the year.
In addition, we organise Nipperâs coaching, Friday Night Racing in early Summer followed by the Summer courses and our NYC Junior Regatta, the September Series in the Autumn and the annual Junior Awards Dinner.
Separately we run a TY Programme which is a combined programme with the RSGYC and the RIYC. We also run Instructor programmes and host Regional and National Junior sailing events.
The aim is to bring our Junior Sailors to the sport so that they sail, have fun, make friends, gain skills and eventually go through the Irish Sailing stages to, perhaps, become instructors, either at home or abroad, or make a start to enjoying a life in this sport.
Please see link to the presentation of our recent Junior Section Parents Information Evening which gives a snapshot of all that is on offer from the Junior Section and the various pathways for our young sailors to follow together with the highlights of this yearâs sailing successes of our Junior and Youth sailors.
