The 2026/2027 Snooker and Billiards season is now well under way!

The first competition of the season has been completed following a very successful Billiards competition event held between August and September 2026

This is the first time the Billiards has been played after a few years hiatus. Great to see the interest and completion of the matches in time.

Congratulations to Michael Hennigan who won out in a very competitive final versus Alex Lyons.

I can see this competition going from strength to strength in the coming seasons and would highly recommend getting involved in this.

This competition was also the pilot test for our new Snooker app (snooker.nyc.ie). Following a very successful pilot the app has now been rolled out to support the 2026 / 2027 NYC Snooker season.

The app is now used to support all Snooker related activities – from Table/room bookings, Competition draw details, Match bookings, Results recording and notifications.

Thanks to everyone who supported this pilot and provided their feedback and suggestions – but particularly to Alex Lyons (and his best friend Claude!) for all the effort in getting this app developed to meet our needs.

This is a massive step forward. I have also been assured that further functionality is in the pipeline! Watch this space.

If there are any issues or support required in using the app or booking the table/matches – Alex and the committee will be there to support all members. Please reach out to us if required

Next:

Next up is the McWilliams singles and the Johnston Memorial Doubles competitions.

The McWilliams draw has been made – and split between the O’Donovan and Elgan sections.

We look forward to a successful competition with a record number of participants this year which is great to see

Best of luck to all

Finally – a reminder. New members are always welcome.

We have Friday ‘members time’ from 17:00 every week which is a very social and fun time – all welcome and matches / pairings are made up on the day for whoever is there.

A great way to meet new players/members and get more snooker experience in a non competitive environment. No experience necessary, all levels are currently participating and we would encourage people to come along and get involved!

And our Commodore, Rosemary Cadogan is coordinating a growing group of female members that are keen to get more Snooker awareness and experience. We are running regular coaching sessions this year to help support this development.

If there are any other members wishing to get involved please contact Rosemary for further details.

And for younger members – if there was interest in getting a similar Snooker awareness and experience activity going please contact one of the committee members (John Loughrey, Alex Lyons, Sean Costello and Andrew Johnston);  we would be keen to support such an initiative as well

Chair NYC Snooker and Billiards Committee
