Optimist Events
The Volvo Gill Optimist Spring Championships took place recently in the UK hosted by the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. There were 175 sailors in total split into two flights.
It was a two day event with 6 races, windy for the first two races then light for the rest. The sailors sailed in chop and big currents. The Race officer did a good job to get races in on the Sunday as tide start pulling sailors over the line.
There were 16 Irish sailors competing including Luke Turvey, Hugh Turvey, Rocco Wright and Lucia Cullen from the NYC, it was great to see the tricolours at the top of the leader board, 7 Irish in the top 11.
Many congratulations to Luke Turvey who finished 2nd overall, Hugh Turvey who finished 9th and Rocco Wright who finished 10th.
