The Optimist programme is offering 4 afternoons of sailing after mid term break.
Our plan is based on the NYC’s core values of family, friendship and sporting excellence
All sailors and parents MUST READ AND ADHERE TO the Club’s code of conduct to encourage good behaviour and camaraderie: Code-of-Behaviour
Read carefully the requirements for the various groups before enrolling your child using the form below.
Kids should be happy to go sailing on their own and have access to their own boats or charter boats.
We will be offering 3 levels.
– start sailing: By the end of this course you will be sailing in light wind conditions with assistance from your instructor.” The idea is to bring the sailor to a level where they are sailing independently in light airs.
– basic skills: Sailors are offered greater independence in lighter airs and will be exposed to windier conditions as the course progresses. They will also begin to learn the essential manoeuvres required for dinghy sailing. Sailors will be given access to as broad a range of scenarios as possible as well as venturing further, more independently.
– improving skills: By the end of this module, all sailors will be competent to launch, sail and recover their boat in moderate conditions. They will learn the essential seamanship manoeuvres and develop and understanding and appreciation for the weather, tides, and current.
You can find more information on Irish Sailing Website if needed
We will need 1 or 2 beachmasters for every session as you know our wonderful volunteers make our sport happen. Thanks for all the support to date in previous courses. Shore support is essential to the smooth running of the programme. As soon as the group is gathered, we will ask 2 parents for shore duty every Sunday. Many thanks in advance.
Price : €100 – Club Charter Boats (limited availability) are available at an extra €60
