Optimist Events – Optimist Connacht Championships
The IODAI Optimist Connacht Championships took place over the weekend of the 7/8 July hosted by Lough Derg Yacht Club. The event attracted over 100 entries. The club was represented by 22 Junior members and all had a fantastic time with amazing sunshine,with some families choosing to camp and enjoy the wonderful hospitality laid on by the host club.

Last weekend in glorious sunshine the Irish Topper National Championship took place in Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club. The National Yacht club was represented by Hugh O'Connor, Natasha Hemeryck, Eoghan Turner, Deirdre Turner and Caoimhe Byrne in the full 5.3 Rig and Caoimhe Seymour in the 4.2 Rig.

Update on the Oppie Europeans
Team Ireland shines in Scheveningen
NYCâs Leah Rickard, Nathan Vansteenberge, Sam Ledoux and Rocco Wright travelled as part of a seven-sailor team to represent Ireland at the 2018 Optimist European Championships in Scheveningen the Netherlands 25-29 June 2018. Along with Team Ireland sailors Johnny Flynn, Emily Riordan and Eimer McMoriarty, coach Thomas Chaix and Team Assistant Ciara Peelo, they delivered one of Irelandâs most successful outcomes at a European Optimist Championship!
NYCâs Gorman & Doorly 4th at Flying Fifteen British Championships
Seven Flying Fifteens from the NYC traveled to Whiterock in Strangford Lough last week to compete in the 50 strong top class fleet. With consistent sailing and a bit of luck Dave Gorman & Chris Doorly came out best of the Irish with an impressive fourth place finish after three races of the scheduled eight were completed on Saturday. Club’s Women on the Water Team Win NYC Regatta Prize
The National Yacht Club Women on the Water team continues to grow in numbers with up to 30 lady sailors now sailing weeklyin DBSC Racing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This enthusiastic group entered two 1720 Sportsboats in last weekend's club regatta with an all ladies crew. It was a glorious day of sunshine with two windward/leeward races providing lots of challenging sailing.
The NYC awarded a Women's Boat prize in recognition of the many new and returning ladies to sailing in the club. This was jointly won by one of our 1720s helmed by Fiona Staunton and an SB20 sailed by Sarah Byrne from Greystones.
