Instructors Wanted for Summer 2022 – DEADLINE TO APPLY MONDAY 31ST JANUARY MIDNIGHT

The National Yacht Club is currently seeking to recruit a team of committed sailing instructors and assistant instructors to run our popular summer courses in 2022.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to teach and develop our club’s young sailors whilst gaining experience, developing your skills and having lots of fun on and off the water.

The dates for summer courses 2022 are as follows. The summer sailing courses will be full days.

  • Course 1: 7-17 June 2022
  • Course 2: 20 June – 1 July 2022
  • Course 3: 4 July – 15 July 2022
  • Course 4: 18 – 29 July 2022
  • Course 5: 2 – 12 August 2022

We are looking for Dinghy Instructors, Advanced Instructors and an Assistant Senior Instructor, as well as Assistant Instructors. Please note that places are in high demand. In previous years it was not always possible to offer a job to all applicants.

Dinghy Instructors

To teach Taste of Sailing, Start Sailing, Basic Skills and Improving Skills in sailing dinghies to young sailors. 

 

Will typically have one or two years’ experience of instructing, after qualifying.

Advanced Instructors

To teach Kites and Wires, Adventure, Advanced Boat Handling, Racing and Double Handed Asymmetrics.

 

Will typically have at least two years’ experience of instructing, after qualifying.

Assistant Senior Instructor

To teach sailing courses/clinics and support the Senior Instructor in managing the 2022 summer courses/clinics, as needed.

 

Will typically have at least three years’ experience of instructing, after qualifying.

Senior Instructor

To lead the team of sailing instructors and coaches for the 2022 summer courses/clinics.

 

Will typically have at least five years’ experience of instructing, after qualifying.

Assistant Instructors

To support fully qualified instructors.

 

Minimum requirements: Applicants must hold their Powerboat licence; First Aid cert; Safeguarding cert; Garda vetting cert.

 

Only applications from sailors who have completed TY will be considered. 

The application process will open on 7 March 2022.

Applicants must have obtained the correct Irish Sailing level of qualification for the position for which they are applying. Please refer to the Irish Sailing website: https://www.sailing.ie/Training/Instructors/Get-Qualified

Applicants must be Garda vetted or show at the time of interview that they have applied to Irish Sailing for Garda vetting.

The application process is as follows:

  • Applicants shall apply using the below form and provide a current CV.
  • All applications will be reviewed by a 3-person panel to ensure objectivity and fair process. The panel will be appointed in early 2022.
  • A short-list of applicants will be compiled and invited to interview in early 2022.
  • The interview will be conducted in person (Covid regulations permitting) by a 3-person panel. The interview will be an opportunity for the applicant to demonstrate their competencies.
  • Following the interview, successful applicants will receive offers of employment.
  • Any candidate who is not successful will be offered the opportunity to receive feedback.

The selection criteria are defined by four broad competencies:

  • Sailing experience and technical ability, incl. racing and general seamanship experience
  • Instructing experience
  • Positive interpersonal/communication skills
  • A passion for sailing and working with children
