100 Boats, 100 Years – “Leinster” Centenary DMYC Kish Race 2018

This year, the DMYC’s annual Kish Race will be in honour of the centenary anniversary of the sinking of the mailboat “Leinster” on October 10th, 1918.

On Sunday 23rd September, the race out to the Kish and back (or a suitable substitute mark depending on the weather) will be held, followed by the prize giving.

For the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Leinster, we are aiming to have 100 boats taking part on the day!!!

The Kish Race will be open to both modern production boats and classic yachts, and the Dublin Bay Old Gaffers Association Race for the “Leinster Plate” will be incorporated in to this event.

Deloitte has been confirmed as a new sponsor of the Flying Fifteen Championships of Ireland 2018, hosted by the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire from 28th to 30th September (NOR to be published soon...)

With great numbers turning out for club racing in recent months it is expected that there will be a large turnout at September’s event and, with just a year to go before the World Championship take place at the same Dun Laoghaire venue, there may even be some visitors from overseas. Dublin Bay is recognised as a top class sailing venue, and with Jack Roy - international and Olympic pro, as well as Irish Sailing President - on the bill as race officer, the day will not be short on quality race management and expertise.

NYC member Tom Dolan and French co-skipper Tanguy Bouroullec have locked horns with fellow newcomers Erwan La Draoulec and LoĂŻs Berrehar as they battle it out for the title of first rookie in the Transat AG2R La Mondiale.

Dolan and Bouroullec’s Smurfit Kappa-Cerfrance was less than ten miles ahead of La Droulec and Berrehar’s Concarneau Entreprendre in the rankings on Friday.

But in reality the two boats were practically neck and neck, with Smurfit Kappa-Cerfrance positioned around 15 miles north of Concarneau Entreprendre...

NYC Olympic Laser sailor Finn Lynch continues to master further challenges in Hyeres as light winds dominated the third day of competition at the Sailing World Cup Series. The 22–year–old has moved up to 13th overall and is now only six points off the top ten overall in his 68–boat fleet.
