2018 Optimist British National and Open Championship

2018 Optimist British National and Open Championship

We have 10 junior sailors from NYC competing in this event, see if you can spot them in these great short video updates.

Day 1 https://vrsport.tv/vr-media/2018-optimist-british-national-open-championship-day-one/
The start of the qualifiers for the huge international Optimist fleet in Pwllheli, Wales. It turned out to be a long day on the water, six hours, with just a start, beat and downwind leg before abandonment. Hardy sailors these Oppies!

Day 2 https://vrsport.tv/vr-media/2018-optimist-british-national-open-championship-day-two/
Day Two of the UK Optimist Nationals 2018 hosted by Plas Heli in North Wales. “Choppy and light winds” – classic for the region if it’s not blowing old boots! Three races completed and many smiles or frowns with plenty of stories to tell the coaches and support crews (parents).

Day 3 https://vrsport.tv/vr-media/2018-optimist-british-national-open-championship-day-three/

Meet the Regatta Fleet – the very young guns competing at the 2018 Optimist British Nationals. On water coaching, having fun with their friends makes for a great introduction to big fleet racing.

NYC member Nell Staunton, competing in the Laser Radial class at Youth World Sailing Championships in Texas this week has just finished the event in 8th Place!

A fantastic result competing against 46 of the best female Laser Radial sailors in the world she never dropped out of the top 10. The conditions in Texas were tough with strong winds for 4 of the 5 days of the event.
