IS Local Umpire Course – March 22 – Zoom

Date: Monday 28th and Wednesday 30th March 2022
Time: 18.00 to 21.00 hours both evenings

This course is for anyone interested in improving their umpire skills. Both Match and Team Racing use a system of umpiring, in which penalties are imposed during the race, avoiding, for the most part, the need for conventional protests.

It is delivered by International Umpires Chris Lindsay and Cxema Pico.

Minimum age 16yrs. Costs: €10pp

Any equipment necessary: Note taking materials.

Who is this for?
This is a great introductory course to all disciplines of Race Officials. This course explains the different disciplines, what they do in the run up to an event, during and after. It is an introduction into the wonderful world of Race Officers, Mark Layers, Equipment Inspectors, Measurers, Results Managers, Event Safety, Judges and Umpires.
Minimum age 16yrs.

Adult Single Handed Dinghies Race Training

Adult Single Handed Dinghies Race Training

The NYC is organising Race Coaching clinics for Adults on single handed boats (Lasers / RS Aeros) on Wednesday evenings, starting this week (10th June) for 4 weeks.

This scheme is not for beginners! There will be no rescue service provided and the sessions will be weather dependent - all participants are expected to be competent sailors able to right their own boat in case of a capsize.

Costs: €60 for the 4 weeks.

The Coach is NYC former Olympic Campaigner Tadgh Donnelly.

Barry Hayes from UK Sailmakers is presenting his very popular talk on 'Top Tips for Sailors' in the National Yacht Club on Thursday 6th February from 7.30pm

The presentation will be in 2 parts:

Part A: Racing / Cruising boat optimisation
Part B: Learn to service your deck hardware (winches and cars, both manual or electric versions)

The NYC is delighted to announce that Mr. Gearoid O'Riain, a long time member of the Club, has agreed to succeed Mr. Jim Gorman as our resident tutor for our 'Enhanced International Certificate of Competency' (I.C.C.) courses going forward.

Following the cancellation of our first course, the Club is delighted to be in a position to reschedule this valuable course (I.C.C.is now required by most Yacht Chartering Companies Worldwide) albeit starting at the later date of 20th January (previously advertised as starting on Monday 13th).

The course is limited to 12 participants on a first come first served basis!
