Quiz update:

The Christmas Quiz dinner was held on Wednesday 13^th December with a full dining room and great atmosphere. They say Christmas comes just once a year, but Wizard must wish it could be Christmas every day. Having consumed too much eggnog early on, the current champions dropped seven points in one round, yet were able to reach the top of the tree by the end of the evening – helped clearly by some teams merriment and answering under the influence (Corner Boys!).

Enchantress continued their good form to tie in 2^nd place with The Dirty Ruckers, and The Salopettes, followed by T.B.M. and The Corner Boys. The overall leader board shows Enchantress leading the way but keen form students will be eyeing the potential for discards in the future.

We take a break now until the next quiz in 2024 – January 24^th at 8pm sharp! The Quizmaster would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teams for their participation and enthusiasm in making it a great quiz season so far, and we wish all teams and their families a very Happy Christmas and a safe New Year. Quiz Update

Strictly Come Quizzing

They say it takes ‘two to Tango’, and so Enchantress took to the floor on Wednesday to sashay into a tie-break. After a nail-biter, Tango waltzed away with the win. The Corner Boys continued to pogo up and down in form, while The Dirty Ruckers capped a fine performance in fourth, with last-time-out winners Celtic Boys left looking for a dance partner after swanning into an early lead.

Enchantress, though, move to the top of the Overall Leaderboard, while all the other teams eagerly await the chance to discard their poorer performances.

One view is that, with up to four potential discards, all teams are currently sitting tied on zero points!

Next up is the Christmas Dinner Quiz on the 13^th December – all teams who are intending on dining should notify the club in advance. Dinner for 7.30pm. Quiz will start at 8.30pm.

Quiz update

The second quiz of the season took place on Wednesday evening last (1 November) with a new record 22 teams participating. Appropriately, on the anniversary of the passing of their team mate, T.B.M. won with an excellent final round to take them clear of the pack. Wizard came second, with Harmerang finishing in third place. The Corner Boys were like fish out of water, or at least like boys out of their corner, and came down the field. It was a welcome back for Rudderless and the Chancellors.

As the season warms up, the overall leaderboard (CLICK HERE) is beginning to take shape.

Quiz Night Returns on October 18th next

The ever-popular National Yacht Club table quiz resumes on October 18th next.

Each year, through the winter months, we hold a series of table quizzes every second Wednesday. The quizzes are a very popular and enjoyable social event with questions suited to all tastes and ages. Last year, we had a regular turnout of approximately 100 members and guests that made for entertaining evenings – as long as the Quizmaster plays along!

National Yacht Club – Winter Table Quiz series 2022/23

On 5 April, the final round of the winter table quiz series was held with 18 teams participating. We had an enthralling finish to a captivating season, where any one of three teams were in with a chance to win the overall prize.

Congratulations go to team WIZARD who won on the night and captured the BRAINS OF THE BAY TROPHY beating The Corner Boys and Enchantress into 2^nd and 3^rd respectively.

The 11-quiz series was a great success with 22 different teams participating throughout the series, as well as a Christmas dinner and a final round Club dinner to round off the competition, where the Commodore presented the trophy to the successful WIZARDS (pictured ).

We look forward to welcoming all teams (old and new) back next Autumn. We will kick off again on the 18^th October (put the date in your diaries!) - watch out for updates in the Newsletter.

Table Quiz update – Round 8

The 8^th quiz of the season took place on Wednesday, 22^nd February, and saw Wizard finally break the spell and weave a bit of magic. After four second-place finishes in a row, they finally won out, in the end by a comfortable 4-point margin.

The Overall Leaderboard (below) now includes discards, and sees Enchantress and Corner Boys tied for the overall lead. However, both those teams can expect the other teams close to them to get closer as earlier scores get discarded. It could all heat up towards the end of the season. Quizmaster anticipates a gripping finale on the 5^th April.

The next quiz is on the 8^th March @ 8pm sharp. All are welcome.

Table Quiz update – Round 7

Round 7 of the Table Quiz series was held on Wednesday, 8^th February, and produced a close and exciting finish, with T.B.M. prevailing for their second victory of the series. The bigger story of the night (pace T.B.M.) was the continuing saga of team Wizard occupying 2^nd place again – the fourth consecutive second-place finish for the serious sorcerers! This run of near misses is enchanting us all. When will the spell end? Perhaps a series of questions on all things wizardry might add a bit of magic?
