The Boathouse team provides a range of services to Club members, including operating the launch service to the Club moorings on the East Pier, lifting and scrubbing boats, providing lifting for dry-sailed boats, and maintaining the platform, pontoon infrastructure, and swinging moorings. The team maintains and operates the Club crane, forklift and winches. It also manages the club ribs and charter boats, prepares for sailing events and manages the allocation and use of platform space.
Private work by Boathouse Staff
From time to time, Club employees (i.e. boathouse staff) may be requested by a member to undertake work for that member on the Club premises on a private, out-of-hours basis. It is the Club’s policy that this work can be accommodated by Club employees only in strict accordance with the following conditions:
- Club employees are not permitted to carry out such work during hours that they are rostered to work at and for the Club; all such work may be carried out only in an employee’s free time – i.e. on an out-of-hours basis.
- Club employees carrying out such work out of hours are not covered by the Club’s insurance policies. Therefore, it is a condition of carrying out such work that any employee doing so has appropriate insurance in place. Any employee wishing to carry out such work must (in advance of commencing any such work) provide a copy of his or her insurance policy to the Sailing Manager or Club Manager, who will retain this for the Club’s records.. To be clear, Club employees who do not have their own insurance policy in place are not permitted to carry out work in a private capacity at the Club premises on members’ boats.
- Members requesting Club employees to carry out work on a private out-of-hours basis do so at their own risk and on such terms as they agree with the applicable employee; the Club will bear no liability whatsoever for such work, nor for any damage to the member’s property arising in connection therewith. It is imperative for this reason that members satisfy themselves that the employee who is to carry out the work is covered by his or her own insurance policy.
- The service provided must not be a service ordinarily provided by the Club.
- The proposed private work must be approved and signed off in advance by the Sailing Manager.
- Any use of Club facilities or equipment (for example, crane, power washer, or similar) must be booked and paid for in advance at the applicable Club rates. All such charges are for the account of the Club, and are separate to whatever charges or fees as may be agreed between the member and the employee for the work done.
This policy is to be issued to all members and relevant staff. Any breach of this policy will be treated as a disciplinary matter under the Club’s disciplinary procedures.
Private work by Independent Contractors
All independent contractors engaged to work on members’ boats on Club premises must hold adequate insurance. Before commencing work, such contractors must present themselves at the Boathouse Office, provide evidence of their insurance, and sign the Club’s Contractor Indemnity form. The Club bears no liability for such work, nor for any damage to a member’s property arising in connection therewith. It is a matter for members engaging such contractors to satisfy themselves that the contractors are covered by their own insurance policy.
