Dear Members

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of  long standing member of the NYC, Mr. Jack Owens.

The National Yacht Club has lost a great friend.

In the 70’s when the Mermaid class was the biggest racing class in the Bay, Jack crewed with Johnnie Walker accumulating many trophies for the mantle piece. On the introductin of the new flying fifteen class Jack acquired himself a wooden fifteen later changing to a GRP boat. With over 25 years in the flying fifteen class Jack was also much involved with the running of the junior section. After hanging up his racing boots Jack involved himself with every sailing event at the National Yacht Club, was a regular DBSC volunteer and later becoming a Race Officer. His favourite event was to officiate at the annual Mermaid and flying fifteen forstbite series, the former classes he enjoyed so much.

Jack was an affiable, friendly and volunteer contrbutor and will be greatly missed by his club and wide circle of friends.
