Transition Year Introduction To Match Racing
As part of the waterfront transition year students activities, the National YC is offering an introduction to Match Racing on the club Eliotts. Wether you have dreams to be in the next Dublin world tour line up and battle with the best Match racers or you simply want to enjoy growing sailing skill, teamwork, rules knowledge and have great exciting fun in the process, the course is for you!
National YC head coach Thomas Chaix will run the sessions along with his team. 3 of the days will be dedicated to grow the necessery skills practicing starts, the course and the teamwork in delivering solid boathandling. The final day will deliver a fun and friendly competition putting all into practice...
The Eliotts are perfect for Match racing. These small keelboats usually sailed with 3 onboard (sometimes 4) are highly manoeuvrerable and will challenge young sailors progressing all the necessery skills. Sailors can register as a team or individually. the coaching team will ensure everyone interested is able to sail.

Places are limited to 4 teams or 12 sailors, ideally with 4 keen skippers as we have a 4 boats operation.
ILCA Dun Laoghaire Autumn Sprint
The National Yacht Club is hosting the ILCA Dun Laoghaire Autumn sprint on October 18th.

Open to all ILCA sailors, the plan is to run up to 5 short sprint style races with first gun at 12.00 with podiums in the various categories after racing.

NYC Optimists take on the Connacht Championships
What a weekend for our NYC Optimists at the Connacht Championships in Galway Bay Sailing Club! With sailors competing across the Senior, Junior, Regatta Racing and Regatta Coached fleets, there was plenty of NYC spirit out on the water, with some brilliant racing, tough conditions and great team spirit.
Senior Fleet
Our Senior sailors Alanna Whelan and Catherine Walsh took on a very competitive fleet and gave it everything over the weekend.
Congratulations to Alanna Whelan on her fantastic 3rd place in the Senior Bronze fleet. Alanna also put together a really solid series, with some particularly strong racing towards the end of the championship, including 17th and 18th place finishes.
Catherine Walsh also had a great weekend of racing, finishing 25th overall. She got off to a strong start with an excellent 21st place in Race 1, followed by another good 24th in Race 3, showing great consistency and determination across the six races.
Well done Alanna and Catherine, great sailing and great perseverance!
Junior Fleet
Our Junior sailors faced a tough 54-boat fleet and there was plenty of fighting spirit on display.
Freddy Hofler finished a strong 27th overall, including a brilliant 13th place in Race 2 and 16th in Race 4.
Gabrielle Walsh also put together a great series, with a couple of really solid 28th-place finishes.
Charles Richard had a particularly strong 24th place in Race 5 â a great result in a big and competitive fleet.
And a special mention to Dylan Fahy, competing in only his second Junior fleet event. Dylan showed great resilience throughout the weekend and kept battling through the tough races, well done, Dylan!
A massive well done to Freddy, Gabrielle, Charles and Dylan for getting stuck in and representing NYC so well.
Regatta Racing
A fantastic performance from Cormac Whelan in the Regatta Racing fleet, finishing an excellent 8th overall.
Cormac had a brilliant 4th place in Race 2 and finished strongly with an 8th in the final race. A great result and some seriously good racing, well sailed, Cormac!
Regatta Coached
And what a weekend for Timothee Richard in the Regatta Coached fleet!
His first event this year!
Timothee finished an outstanding 3rd overall, with a fantastic run of 3rd, 4th, 3rd and 3rd in his four counting races. Super consistent sailing and a brilliant result!

A huge congratulations to Alanna, Catherine, Freddy, Gabrielle, Charles, Dylan, Cormac and Timothee.
Some great results, plenty of hard-fought racing and lots of determination across the fleets. You all did the NYC proud!
Junior September Series
Join National Yacht Club, DĂșn Laoghaire, for three great Sundays of junior racing on 20 and 27 September and 4 October 2026.
Supported by DBSC, the September Series welcomes junior sailors across Optimist, ILCA, Topper, RS Feva and PY classes for competitive harbour racing in Dun Laoghaire.
The first gun is at 13:55 each day, with up to three races scheduled. Come for the racing, the camaraderie and a brilliant close to the seasonâfollowed by a BBQ at NYC on Sunday 4 October.
Prize giving will take place at the DBSC Annual Prize Giving on Saturday 7 November at the National Maritime Museum, DĂșn Laoghaire.

Coaching Opportunities – Autumn Sailing Programme
Our autumn sailing programme gets underway on Saturday, 19 September, running every Saturday, and we are looking for enthusiastic and reliable coaches to join the team.
We are seeking Lead Coaches for both Adult Sailing (Aeros & ILCA/Laser), running from 9.30amâ12.30pm, and Junior Dinghies (29er, ILCA & Toppers), running from 1.00pmâ5.00pm. Lead Coaches must be able to commit to more than 50% of the scheduled sessions.
Junior sailors will be divided into three groups, with coaches focusing on their preferred class where possible, while also being prepared to move between groups as required. Where numbers are low, groups may be combined and sessions adapted to focus on general boat handling skills.
We are also looking for keen and dependable coaches who can step in when available to support the programme. Preference will be given to coaches with relevant skills and experience who submit their availability and preferences promptly.
As part of the programme, the coaching team will also have the opportunity to take part in 2â3 free coach development days, arranged on mutually suitable dates.
Get involved, give back to the club and develop your coaching skills.
