Pat Lawless – Speaker Supper
The start of the NYC CRUISING GROUP's 2025/2026 speakers supper series commences on Thursday, November 6th at 19:30.
We are delighted to welcome back Pat Lawless who kicked off the rejuvenation of the cruising group two years ago. Pat will join us again to talk about his adventures and the build up to his participation in the 2026 Golden Globe Race.
Lake Garda 2.4 mR World Championships 2025
The 2.4mR World Championship was held at Malcesine, Lake Garda from 9-12 October with 55 competitors.
For the first 3 days racing was held in the afternoon after the southerly wind filled in with the wind still very light for most of the racing. The most number of races and the overall event was won by Jeff Linton from USA, despite receiving a black flag disqualification (along with myself and a big chunk of the fleet) on the seventh race.
Megan and Urs finished second and third. On the final day of racing we started at 9am to catch the wind before it died as it always does at midday.
The wind was a good bit stronger and it was a lot choppier. Someone remarked to me afterwards that was the Garda everyone is always talking about.
Megan got a second and a first and ended up tied on points with Jeff, but Jeff won the event as he had more first places.
I finished 41st with my best races being 22, 23, 25 and 27. It was a great event to be part of and a great learning experience and I am looking forward to next year.

AIB DBSC Turkey Shoot Series 2025
SUNDAY 2nd NOVEMBER â SUNDAY 14th DECEMBER
A series of SEVEN races to be held on Sunday mornings organised by Dublin Bay Sailing Club. A progressive handicap on a time-on-time basis will be used.
For keelboats, cruisers, cruising boats, one-designs and boats that do not normally race are very welcome.
First gun 10.10 hrs.
Entry fee âŹ70.00 â includes temporary membership of Dublin Bay S.C. and Royal Irish Y.C.

Sailing instructions will be available on Sunday 2nd November and will be emailed to entrants beforehand. After sailing - draws, food etc. will be available to competitors in Royal Irish Y.C. who are kindly hosting the series. You have to be there to win!
Last date for entries â Wednesday 29th October. Handicaps of late entries (and incorrect sail nos.!) will be adjusted accordingly!
Patrick Hassett – 2.4mR Worlds
We would like to wish Patrick Hassett the very best of luck as he travels to Lake Garda for the 2.4mR World Championships which are being hosted at Fragile Vela Malcesine in conjunction with World Sailing .
The event from 7th to 12th October has an entry of over 60 participants who will have a series of 11 races over four days and we hope that all Patricks consistent training throughout the Summer will serve him well !
NYC F15s Frostbite Series 2025
The NYC Frostbite Series 2025 will take place in the National Yacht Club on 5 Saturdays for Flying Fifteens commencing on Saturday 18th October. There will be back-to-back races on each day of the series.

Cruising Group -Diary Dates
Two dates for your diary.
Friday 17 of October 2025; Cruising group AGM and sailing supper.
This will follow the usual format, with the AGM starting around 6:30 PM, followed by the supper at 8:00 PM. Anybody who has any particular issue they would like to have discussed, please let me know so I can include it in the agenda.
The agenda will include such issues as a cruising program for 2026, a training program, sailing supers and fireside chats over the winter, etc.
After two years serving as chair, I propose to stand down at the AGM . I intend to propose Andrew Collins who has agreed to take over.
If there's somebody willing to 2nd him that would be nice. I would also highlight that if there are any other nominations for chair, please let me know prior to the AGM.
Edel has agreed to put together a pamphlet of stories/narratives for the sailing supper, so please let her have any photos you have, together with a brief outline of any trip or journey you undertook during the year, by Friday 10th October at the latest. Email: admin@nyc.ie

You will remember that it was Pat Lawless, who kicked off the rejuvenation of the cruising group two years ago, with his talk about his involvement in the 2022 Golden Globe race.
Known colloquially as âthe ârace from Mad Menâ this involves a single-handed nonstop race around the world in boats under 36 feet, with technology that had to have been in existence in 1968, the date the first ever Golden Globe race.
He was doing quite well in the 2022 race but had to retire in Cape Town due to gear failure. He has been approved as a participant in the 2026 race.
I would appreciate a large attendance as he merits support as the only Irish man in the race. He may also, if he completes the course, become the first Irishman to sail single handily around the world nonstop.

Platform Clearance for the Lift-out 2025!
Dear Summer Platform Parking users.
The Summer Platform Parking Season is coming to an end on Sunday 5th October (at the very latest for boats still taking part in sailing activities) and we need a total platform clearance of all the dinghies and other types currently on the deck and / or on racks to make room for the lift-out which is scheduled for Saturday 11th October.
If your boat is not in use in one of the Club organised training anymore please make sure to come and collect it as soon as possible as the skeleton boathouse staff needs to reconfigure the platform well in advance of the lift-out and to reposition, or partially dismantle the racks used by the Opis, Toppers, Lasers and RS Aeros.
ALL dinghies must be removed by Sunday 5th October 18:00 at the very latest.
Please note that we do not have room to store any boat even temporarily on the Carlisle Pier until the platform reopens for the Winter parking season and cannot facilitate any such request.
The Committee is currently reviewing the demand for platform space from the various user groups this winter (junior dinghy sailors / adult dinghy sailors / single handed / 2 handed boats / keelboat dry sailing) and will have to limit the various classes of boats to strict numbers.
