Clean Sweep for National Yacht Club’s MacCarthy and McNally at Flying Fifteen East Coasts
Shane MacCarthy and Hugh McNally recorded a perfect score of five race wins to take the penultimate regatta of the Irish Flying Fifteen season, the East Coast Championships, hosted by the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire this past weekend.
With a fleet that boasted entries from the four coastlines of Ireland, North, South, East and West they had it almost all their own way on Saturday but faced a few challenges on Sunday.
Or at least that is what I garnered at the prize-giving on Sunday...Read more here

Adult single handers coaching series pre-liftout
With the last few weeks of reasonable weather upon us and before the annual lift-out, the NYC is running an end of season coaching/support series for our single-handed adult sailors before we move into the winter.
As per previous series, the coaching is open to RS aeros and ILCAs (all rigs) and the sessions are designed to suit a wide range of abilities with a focus on boat handling and basic race techniques. We however ask sailors to consider their own ability and skills before launching in windier conditions: learning by observing on the coach boat is an option in such cases (withing RIB capacities) or alternatively we may forward the fee paid to part-finance an individual session.
Dates: Sept 22: Coach Sam Ledoux, Sept 29: Coach Nicole Hemerick, Oct 6: Coach TBC
Training runs from 9.30 till 12.30 each day. Cost for all 3 sessions: âŹ75 / Cost for 2 sessions only: âŹ60
Big Beach Cleanup – Saturday 21st September from 10:30 to 12:30
The land group of Dun Laoghaire Tidy Towns volunteers will meet at 10:30 outside the church at the top of Marine Road. They will divide into two groups and proceed down Marine Road. One group will turn right towards the East Pier and the other group will turn left towards the West Pier.
Shoreside, I want to thank the DMYC, INSS, Dun Laoghaire Powerboat School, BigStyle and Moontour who have all volunteered to provide boats, RIBs, paddle boards and kayaks and to lift any litter or debris out of the water along the shoreline.
Whilst we have a good response from the west side of the harbour, we could do with the same from the east side! Please get in touch with me (dltidytowns@gmail.com) if you can provide any assistance on the water from the East Pier towards the Marina.
I will be in touch with all volunteers over the next few days and will arrange to bring hi-viz vests, rubbish bags and litter pickers to each group and to discuss the areas to be covered. We will also have our own coordinator in a RIB on the water to assist.
Between the group on the land and the group on the sea, I think it will be a spectacular event and a real demonstration of how we in Dun Laoghaire are committed to protecting our shoreline.
Looking forward to meeting you all,
Kind regards
Catherine Harris
