True champions know when to shine. When competition gets serious, the true champion can go up a gear and put their opponents under pressure by simply competing at a consistently high standard. Those opponents who cannot go toe-to-toe fade in the heat of battle. So it was with our reigning champions Wizard who opened up a commanding lead during the quiz on Wednesday, 12th February, and who never looked back. The Corner Boys stayed in their corner, T.B.M. turned back meekly, Enchantress fell under a spell, and The Dirty Ruckers couldn’t clean up their act.  Wizard answered an impressive 48 of 51 questions correctly. The Quizmaster will have to take stock.

In the overall series Leaderboard, Wizard cemented their lead, but with discards coming into play there are a number of teams who will have aspirations to challenge. The Corner Boys and T.B.M. are joint second with some valuable discards available, and Chancellors, Teamtastic, Harmerang, Enchantress and The Dirty Ruckers can all dream of mounting a challenge.

Three evenings to go! The next quiz is on Wednesday, 26th March, at 8.00pm sharp!

All are welcome.

Cruising Group – Toolbox Talk – Lets Talk Engines With Ian!

Cruising Group – Toolbox Talk – Lets Talk Engines With Ian!

Our Cruising Group is delighted to invite you to our next Toolbox Talk on Wednesday, 19th February, at 7:30 PM in the J.B. Room.

This session will feature Ian Meldon, who has generously offered to host a Q&A on marine engines—specifically, how to identify wear and potential issues before they lead to failure at sea.

Given the broad scope of this topic, we’d like to gather questions in advance to ensure a structured and insightful discussion.

If you have any questions you’d like to see addressed, please email us at admin@nyc.ie, and we’ll include them.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Quiz update

Every dog has his day. In the case of the Corner Boys, during Wednesday’s table quiz (29 January), they barked loudest and bagged the bone. following a tie-break with T.B.M. The Corner Boys’ tails could be seen wagging furiously, and at least one Corner Boy extended the metaphor by sniffing in inappropriate places. This was T.B.M.’s fourth 2nd-place finish, and their second tie-break defeat. A victory must await. Perennial contenders Wizard tied with Chancellors for third, with Teamtastic and Tango putting in good performances to finish close up in fifth and sixth respectively.

Wednesday night’s quiz was the last of the ordinary season, with discards being available from now on. Reigning champions Wizard continue to dominate the overall leaderboard, with T.B.M. and the Corner Boys improving their standing. Expect the competition to heat up in the coming weeks.

Our next quiz will take place on February 12 at 8pm sharp!  All members are welcome to attend and compete – each quiz night is a standalone event. Questions, and sometimes answers, guaranteed.
