DBSC Junior September Series 2025 – Cancelled This Sunday 5th October
The Junior September series start is slightly delayed due to the hosting of the U21 ILCA Worlds ending today (Friday 29th August) which postponed the running of the Team Racing Elmo Trophy to Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September.

NYC F15s Frostbite Series 2025
The NYC Frostbite Series 2025 will take place in the National Yacht Club on 5 Saturdays for Flying Fifteens commencing on Saturday 18th October. There will be back-to-back races on each day of the series.

Cruising Group -Diary Dates
Two dates for your diary.
Friday 17 of October 2025; Cruising group AGM and sailing supper.
This will follow the usual format, with the AGM starting around 6:30 PM, followed by the supper at 8:00 PM. Anybody who has any particular issue they would like to have discussed, please let me know so I can include it in the agenda.
The agenda will include such issues as a cruising program for 2026, a training program, sailing supers and fireside chats over the winter, etc.
After two years serving as chair, I propose to stand down at the AGM . I intend to propose Andrew Collins who has agreed to take over.
If there's somebody willing to 2nd him that would be nice. I would also highlight that if there are any other nominations for chair, please let me know prior to the AGM.
Edel has agreed to put together a pamphlet of stories/narratives for the sailing supper, so please let her have any photos you have, together with a brief outline of any trip or journey you undertook during the year, by Friday 10th October at the latest. Email: admin@nyc.ie

You will remember that it was Pat Lawless, who kicked off the rejuvenation of the cruising group two years ago, with his talk about his involvement in the 2022 Golden Globe race.
Known colloquially as âthe ârace from Mad Menâ this involves a single-handed nonstop race around the world in boats under 36 feet, with technology that had to have been in existence in 1968, the date the first ever Golden Globe race.
He was doing quite well in the 2022 race but had to retire in Cape Town due to gear failure. He has been approved as a participant in the 2026 race.
I would appreciate a large attendance as he merits support as the only Irish man in the race. He may also, if he completes the course, become the first Irishman to sail single handily around the world nonstop.

Platform Clearance for the Lift-out 2025!
Dear Summer Platform Parking users.
The Summer Platform Parking Season is coming to an end on Sunday 5th October (at the very latest for boats still taking part in sailing activities) and we need a total platform clearance of all the dinghies and other types currently on the deck and / or on racks to make room for the lift-out which is scheduled for Saturday 11th October.
If your boat is not in use in one of the Club organised training anymore please make sure to come and collect it as soon as possible as the skeleton boathouse staff needs to reconfigure the platform well in advance of the lift-out and to reposition, or partially dismantle the racks used by the Opis, Toppers, Lasers and RS Aeros.
ALL dinghies must be removed by Sunday 5th October 18:00 at the very latest.
Please note that we do not have room to store any boat even temporarily on the Carlisle Pier until the platform reopens for the Winter parking season and cannot facilitate any such request.
The Committee is currently reviewing the demand for platform space from the various user groups this winter (junior dinghy sailors / adult dinghy sailors / single handed / 2 handed boats / keelboat dry sailing) and will have to limit the various classes of boats to strict numbers.

Mark O’Connor – Mini Transat
Storm Gabriele, currently approaching the Portuguese coast, is proving to be particularly violent. Classified as Category 4, it ranks among the most powerful hurricanes of the year. With gusts reaching 60 knots and waves between six and eight meters, this weather system is comparable to Storm Ciaran, which swept across France two years ago.
Given these conditions, the Race Committee, in agreement with the event organizer, has decided to cancel the first leg. Gabriele is expected to hit the area as early as Saturday, allowing competitors still at sea to seek shelter under safer conditions.
Emmanuel Versace, organiser of La BoulangĂšre Mini Transat, explains this decision:
"The weather situation is very clear, and the storm promises to be devastating. Our priority is the safety of the competitors as well as the support boats. By warning them today, they have time to take shelter in good conditions. We are working with the ports on site so that they can best accommodate them. »
Boats are currently heading to the Spanish and Portuguese coasts seeking shelter
Race management have made contact with Mark and he intends to dock in Cascais -this is approx 190nm from Marks current position he is currently making 3 kts so a long slog.
We will be keeping watch and will update later

Dublin Match Cup…World-Class Match Racing hosted by the NYC
The countdown is on for a thrilling week of elite international sailing as twelve world-class skippers descend on the National Yacht Club for the penultimate stage of the World Match Racing Tour â the Dublin Match Cup, after an impressive calendar of events (please click here to see all the dates and locations)
Racing begins Thursday, 25 September in Scotsman Bay and will be visible to the public from the East Pier, offering spectators a front-row seat to some of the most tactical and exciting sailing in the sport.
This will be the first time the World Match Racing Tour will take place in Dublin. Match racing is one of the fastest growing and accessible disciplines in the sport of sailing. Its format is one of the easiest types of sailing to understand with just two boats sailing around a racecourse in a winner-take-all duel of tactics, strategy and teamwork.
The event has attracted a stellar lineup featuring some of the highest-ranked match racers in the world, along with home-grown Irish talent ready to take on the best. With sailors representing France, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, the USA, Australia, and Ireland, the fleet promises a truly global contest.
Ireland won the bid to host this prestigious event with the help of Irish Sailing and funding from Sport Ireland and the National Yacht Club is delighted to host this prestigious event!
