The very popular Combined Dun Laoghaire Junior September Series will be starting on Sunday 26th August and racing will be held until 23rd September, skipping 9th September (Laser Masters Worlds)

NYC Winter Optimist training 2018
NYC Optimist Intermediate Programme
NYC junior section will be running winter sailing lessons to develop intermediate group of optimist sailors from September 2018 to April 2019. The aim is to support committed sailors throughout the winter months to improve and develop racing skills. Places will be limited to six sailors per group and lessons will take place during half of the day at NYC on both Saturday and Sunday. First weekend session will start 1st and 2nd of September. NYC Optimist Performance Programme
NYC junior section will be running performance winter sailing sessions aimed uniquely to perfect racing skills for a select group of top optimist sailors from September 2018 to April 2019. The goal is to uniquely focus on experienced event racing skills throughout the winter months. Places will be limited to six highly ranked Irish sailors. Lessons will take place at NYC on both Saturday and Sunday and require commitment of full day on the water on both days. If there is a dilemma regarding the eligibility of a sailor to take part in this group, the final decision will be made by the professional coach. Hugh O’Connor wins second place at Topper Worlds in China
Hugh O'Connor wins 2nd Place at the Topper World Championships in Shenzhen China
The Topper Worlds had the largest entry ever this year in Shenzhen China. Conditions were light and wet with lots of humidity. Despite the difficult sailing conditions Hugh O'Connor came second overall.and first for his country. Now the holiday can begin as the group continue their tour of China.
Update on the 420 Worlds 2018
420 Worlds 2018 â Newport, Rhode Island
Nicola and Fiona Ferguson from the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire, competed in the 420 World Championships in Newport, Rhode Island, from 10th-15th August. 167 boats from 18 countries competed in this event. Sailors travelled from all parts of the USA, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the US Virgin Islands.
Roads within Dun Laoghaire Closed Saturday 18th & Sunday19th August
Rathdown County Council will temporarily close the roads listed below on Saturday 18th Sunday 19th August, 2018 to facilitate an Ironman Event.

NYC sailors have great performance at British Nationals
The British Optimist nationals were held in Pwllheli this year. We had 43 Irish sailors at the event and overall the Irish performed very well.
The national Yacht club was represented by 10 sailors, 5 of which are on the Iodai u12 team. Lucia Cullen (u12 team), Edward (u12 team), Ella and Jonathon Dempsey, Conor Staunton(u12team), Des, Hugh & Luke Turvey, Clementine Van Steenberg (u12 team) and Rocco Wright,(U12 team).
The weather was great but sailing conditions were light and shifty.
