NYC U25 J80 Squad – Expression of Interest Form
We are looking for members to form the U25 J80 squad. This form is to express interest and to confirm availability. Expressions of interest are open to ALL members between the ages of 16 and 25, regardless of experience or what boat you sail.
Once details have been confirmed with the club we will organize a Zoom with further details of the proposed squad and invite people to apply, after which selection will occur.
There will be 5 team members (plus 1 or 2 subs)

With 700k subscribers on YouTube we are extremely lucky to have Captain Brian join us for an hour of stories and insights. From quitting a desk job and sailing around the world, to reaching YouTube fame, we will hear all!

Indecon Public Consultation on the Harbour and Town – Have your say!
Dear Members,
As you may be aware, DLRCC has employed consultants to complete separate studies on the future of a) the Harbour and b) the Town. As part of this process, the consultants have already surveyed the Harbour users including the NYC, and have now opened, albeit without much fanfare, the process to the public. This process has only recently come to our notice via the Save Our Seafront folks and the last date for submissions is Sunday February 28th, so not much time!

As noted above, the NYC, via the Development Committee and supported by the General Committee, has already completed a similar survey, and it would be really useful if, along with your own personal views, your submissions reinforced the Clubâs views. To this end below are the highlights of the Clubâs submission.
- The old âCommercial Mandateâ imposed on the Harbour Company by the Harbours Act needs to be abandoned and instead the DLRCC should look on the Harbour as a public asset, and should treat it much as it does Marley or Kilbogget Parks, i.e. public assets that are not required to âmake a returnâ.
- Any commercial activity promoted by the Council for the Harbour should support the cultural, leisure and historic aspects of the Harbour and it use for industrial applications, such as windfarm construction/service, is not appropriate.
- Public access to the water needs to be improved, and the provision of a National Watersports/Events Centre, with appropriate facilities, would go some way towards achieving this goal.
- The Harbour makes Dun Laoghaire a unique location for the hosting of large international watersport events, and there is the expertise available to attract these events, if the proper infrastructure was available.
- The integration between the Town and Harbour needs to be improved, and developing the Harbour as a leisure facility is the best way to achieve this.
- The reduction/removal of the swinging moorings from the East Bight has taken away from the visual impact of the Harbour to the public and these should be reinstated.

ICRA National Conference and AGM – Register Now – Online 6th March 2021
ICRA is delighted to welcome Evelyn Cusak (Head of Forecasting, Met Eireann) to speak at the 2021 ICRA National Conference.
Given the COVID restrictions currently in place, ICRA will hold its annual Conference and AGM online on Saturday 6th March from 10:30 to 13:00.
The event will naturally be shorter this year due to being online, however we are delighted that the Conference will have a number of experts offering advice on all aspects of racing and yacht preparation, and will be followed by the AGM.
The 2020 Annual Conference will feature:
âą Evelyn Cusack (Head of Forecasting, Met Eireann) - we are delighted to have Evelyn Cusack kick-off the conference covering the topic of âWeather Forecastingâ, a critical element of all sailing activities and competitions. Following the bad weather meaning she was unable to attend last year!
âą Latest Yacht Design â a presentation from leading Irish Yacht designer Mark Mills.
âą Major Event Reps â giving you the low down on what to expect at the major cruiser racing coastal and offshore sailing events planned for 2021, and plans for coping with the Covid 19 situation.
âą Sailors Forum â giving members a chance to ask questions of the event organisers to help them plan for the season ahead.
âą ICRA Updates â on the Under 25 Programme, the Central results database, ECHO rules, plans for the ICRA Nationals in 2021.

Junior Summer Courses 2021 – Update
The National Yacht Club are making preparations to run clinics for our junior members from June until August 2021. Last year we learnt how to deal with Covid 19 and provided successful clinics for all of our young members. We have learnt a lot and plan to do things much better this year.
We plan to offer clinics in start sailing, basic skills, improving skills, advanced boat handling, start racing, kites and wires (using club wayfarers and ventures), team racing (using our club fireflies), feva clinics and adventure clinics. We also plan to run optimist and laser racing clinics with our advanced racing coaches throughout the summer.
We will have optimists, toppers and FEVAs to charter for members who want to try out a different boat over the summer.
We will keep you updated, but please be reassured that we are planning a wonderful summer for you all at the National Yacht Club.
Registration and dates of summer sailing courses will be found on the website shortly, so keep an eye on the website.

The challenge consist of 25 questions in increasing order of difficulty.
After you complete the challenge, you will be able to see the Leaderboard and will receive an email with your score and a link to download all the answers for you to study in your own time.
As this is a challenge with a leaderboard, it would obviously be unfair to complete it more than once...so there is a built in IT mechanism to check for unique submission but we do ask all competitors to be fair and take part only once.
