Dun Laoghaire Regatta Sept 5&6 Highlighting National YC 150th – NOR & Entry Form
We are delighted to announce the format and to publish the Notice of Race and draft Sailing Instructions of the Dun Laoghaire Regatta, highlighting the National Yacht Club's Sesquicentennial Anniversary!
Beyond the NYC, this is the key 'On-the-Water Event' for Dun Laoghaire in this Covid pandemic year, encompassing the rationel J80 National Championships, the Shipman National Championships, the SB20 Eastern Championships and the 29er Eastern Championships!
With all the Clubs' Regatta normally held in June and July cancelled earlier, the Dun Laoghaire Regatta' in September is the key Sailing Celebration Event in 2020 and is fully supported and co-organised with the other waterfront Clubs (Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club, Royal Irish Yacht Club and Royal St George Yacht Club) and we are very grateful to them.
The organisers would also like to thank DBSC which is providing key logistical and expertise support to our Clubs' Regatta and are acknowledging this crucial support by giving a 50% discount on entry fees for all boats already entered in the DBSC Summer series and taking part in the Dun Laoghaire Regatta*
(* this discount is already factored in the J80, SB20, Shipman and 29er Class Championships taking place over the same weekend)
As you are aware, it will also be a very different sort of Regatta as all restrictions on in-door gatherings and social distancing rules (in the Clubhouse, on the platform, in the launches, on pontoons and slipways) will remain in place and strictly adhered to.
However, lets the shore-side situation not spoil our enjoyment on the water and we will hopefully see all our racing members supporting this event in the best way they know...by winning races!!

Dun Laoghaire Regatta Scheduled for Sept 5&6 Highlighting National YC 150th
At the start of Covid 19 pandemic, the sailing community in Dun Laoghaire began planning for one event to replace the four individual Yacht Club regattas.
The Regatta had two potential dates July 31st/ August 1st - or Sept. 5/6th.
In the light of recent delay to Phase 4 of reopening, the later date is being chosen and an event is being designed to meet the Covid-19 protocols.
It will be run largely by Dublin Bay Sailing Club, (DBSC) and hosted by National Yacht Club who are celebrating their 150th year. It is being supported by the other Clubs â RIYC, RSGYC and DMYC, whose members will take part.
The event will also have a trophy to mark 100 years since the renaming of the town to Dun Laoghaire and will be supported by Davy Group who will provide prizes and support.
National YC Commodore, Martin McCarthy commented:
âWe are thrilled that the other clubs have so generously given us the opportunity to celebrate our 150th with a Regatta, in a year where sailing time has been very condensed. The event is being designed to meet the requirements of the battle against Covid 19, so Apres Sail will be restricted.
We will have 10 Commemorative medals struck for race winners across the waterfront and a singular trophy to mark 100 years of Dun Laoghaire for the finest Classic boat taking part.
We especially thank Davy Group whose loyalty and ongoing sponsorship during this pandemic has contributed greatly to running this event.
It will be an important step on the road to ânew normalâ and which we hope will finish with a rowing race in Dublin Bay.â
