Boathouse Services Policy

Boathouse Services Policy

The Boathouse team provides a range of services to Club members, including operating the launch service to the Club moorings on the East Pier, lifting and scrubbing boats, providing lifting for dry-sailed boats, and maintaining the platform, pontoon infrastructure, and swinging moorings. The team maintains and operates the Club crane, forklift and winches. It also manages the club ribs and charter boats, prepares for sailing events and manages the allocation and use of platform space.​

Private work by Boathouse Staff

From time to time, Club employees (i.e. boathouse staff) may be requested by a member to undertake work for that member on the Club premises on a private, out-of-hours basis. It is the Club’s policy that this work can be accommodated by Club employees only in strict accordance with the following conditions:

Quiz Update

Quiz Update

February 4th 2026 was witness to a world’s first when the National Yacht Club quiz welcomed the live participation of a quizzer in Australia. A member of the Chancellors joined via Zoom from down under to take part during his early morning. This antipodean perspective certainly helped Chancellors to a fine 2nd place finish in tie with contenders T.B.M., both just a point behind overall leaders and resident brains trust Wizard. The organisers of the quiz are satisfied that the integrity of the live quiz was not undermined by such a development. In two weeks’ time we expect to welcome a new team, the MAGAzines, located entirely in Greenland, and who have indicated that the NYC quiz is vital to their national security. Celtic Boys continued their run of good form with a 4th placed finish, followed closely by Stars of the Sea, the Corner Boys, Harmerang, and Quiztopher Columbus, with improved showings from F-15 and The Flyers.

 

Wizard have compounded their dominance of the overall leaderboard, but with discards about to kick in their lead over T.B.M. is precarious. Other teams are playing for local bragging rights which, this week, go to Quiztopher Columbus for their mini-victory over All At Sea.

 

Our next quiz takes place, sportingly, on the 18th February @ 8.00pm sharp! All are welcome.

1975 NYC Rugby Team

A wonderful photo recently donated to the club shows the 1975 National Yacht Club rugby team. The jersey was designed by the late William (Bill) Hodnett. Many thanks to Bill’s son, David, for donating this picture, along with a large collection of photographic slides taken by his late father.

As 2025 closes out it is time to look back and reflect on the many and varied achievements of our sailors and send in your nominations for the very best.

NYC sailors have had another successful year on the water across numerous classes and many oceans!  Mark O’Connor  becoming the youngest Irishman to race solo across the Atlantic in the Mini Transat, Brian Uniacke and Damian Payne competing in the Clipper Round The World Race, Ethan Spain and Ben O’Shaughnessy winning gold at the 49er Junior European Championship, with Lauren O’Callaghan and Charlotte Eadie, finishing 15th in the 49erFX class at the same event and not forgetting Finn Lynch achieving a  World No. 2 ranking!

Our extremely talented event management teams delivered several remarkable major events in 2025, Adam Winkelmann and his team running the D2D, the ILCA U21 Worlds team delivering a flawless World Championship to the highest of international standards, Peter Ryan being awarded Penmaen Plate for the "Spirit of ISORA". The full team, led by Oisin Cullen and Ruairi Finnegan and including all the wonderful members who provided accommodation, who hosted the World Match Racing Tour demonstrating strong organizational capabilities.

 It is going to be a very busy night on Saturday 28th February 2026 when we honour our stars of sailing in 2025. 

The Sailing Committee is now looking for your nominations for the NYC 2025 Sailing Awards. Nominations should made using the form below by close of business on Thursday 22nd January 2025.
