Cruising Group – Toolbox Talk – Lets Talk Engines With Ian!

Cruising Group – Toolbox Talk – Lets Talk Engines With Ian!

Our Cruising Group is delighted to invite you to our next Toolbox Talk on Wednesday, 19th February, at 7:30 PM in the J.B. Room.

This session will feature Ian Meldon, who has generously offered to host a Q&A on marine engines—specifically, how to identify wear and potential issues before they lead to failure at sea.

Given the broad scope of this topic, we’d like to gather questions in advance to ensure a structured and insightful discussion.

If you have any questions you’d like to see addressed, please email us at admin@nyc.ie, and we’ll include them.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!

David

We are delighted to welcome 2024 Sailor of the Year nominee, Heather Thomas as guest speaker at the Cruising Group speaker supper on November 14th. Fresh from winning the Ocean Globe Race as Skipper of the legendary yacht Maiden earlier this year, Heather will join us in the National Yacht Club to share her story.

While many of us were using google to find the best route to work, whilst complaining of a little rain and some traffic jams, Heather was leading her crew in a race around the world, without any modern technology. Relying on a sextant, charts and celestial navigation as her guide, Heather not only successfully completed the race, she became the first skipper to lead an all female crew to win the race and the youngest skipper to win an around the world yacht race. To do this aboard the iconic yacht Maiden, brought back to life by Tracy Edwards MBE, made the win ever more special.

The path Heather followed as a sailor is remarkable and inspirational. It encapsulates the human spirit of adventure and our ability to break those unbreakable barriers.

Join us on Thursday 14th of November at 7.30pm to hear Heather’s story.

There is a high level of interest in this event so please book this to avoid disappointment.
