True champions know when to shine. When competition gets serious, the true champion can go up a gear and put their opponents under pressure by simply competing at a consistently high standard. Those opponents who cannot go toe-to-toe fade in the heat of battle. So it was with our reigning champions Wizard who opened up a commanding lead during the quiz on Wednesday, 12th February, and who never looked back. The Corner Boys stayed in their corner, T.B.M. turned back meekly, Enchantress fell under a spell, and The Dirty Ruckers couldn’t clean up their act.  Wizard answered an impressive 48 of 51 questions correctly. The Quizmaster will have to take stock.

In the overall series Leaderboard, Wizard cemented their lead, but with discards coming into play there are a number of teams who will have aspirations to challenge. The Corner Boys and T.B.M. are joint second with some valuable discards available, and Chancellors, Teamtastic, Harmerang, Enchantress and The Dirty Ruckers can all dream of mounting a challenge.

Three evenings to go! The next quiz is on Wednesday, 26th March, at 8.00pm sharp!

All are welcome.

Quiz update

The NYC Winter table quiz series came back with a bang on Wednesday (15th January) where long time aficionados of the quiz, Enchantress, won out ahead of the Corner Boys and reigning champions Wizard. Five different teams led at various stages of the evening, but the bearded wonders of Enchantress were fans of Little Mix, and knew that the buck stopped with Kylie Jenner.

In the overall series, Wizard continue to lead ahead of T.B.M., The Dirty Ruckers and Enchantress as the series approaches the possibility of discards (see the overall Leaderboard below).

The next quiz will take place on Wednesday, 19th January, at 8pm sharp! All are welcome.

Expansion of the Green Ocean Dublin Bay Oyster Re-introduction Project

Expansion of the Green Ocean Dublin Bay Oyster Re-introduction Project

The Green Ocean Oyster Re-introduction Project in Dublin Bay, launched in November 2023, is a marine restoration initiative which is restoring native oysters to Dublin Bay.  Oysters are natural “climate champions”, improving water quality and marine biodiversity.

Using innovative "oyster gardening" techniques, oysters are suspended in baskets from marina walkways at multiple locations around Dublin Bay. These oysters naturally filter the water, helping to reduce excess nutrients and pollutants. Their presence also supports biodiversity by encouraging the growth of seagrass and seaweed, which provide vital spawning grounds for fish and their predators as well as being a important carbon sink by sequestering carbon.

Following the successful completion of phase 1, which saw strong oyster growth and reproduction, over the past year, the project is entering phase 2 in October 2024. This phase is expanding the initiative to 120 oyster baskets across six locations in the Bay.
