World Championship Success for Patrick Hassett in the Netherlands

World Championship Success for Patrick Hassett in the Netherlands

The 2.4mR single handed Keelboat Yacht class has been gaining momentum and 85 elite solo sailors competed in last week’s World 2.4 mR Championship competition representing 19 nations over 5 days in Friesland, Netherlands.

At first glance the lake, Sneekermeer, appeared welcoming and calm. However, the varying wind conditions and shifting currents made sailing more challenging with the occasional pleasure boat as obstacles on the course.
Due to these conditions, the overall winner, and 2024 World champion, Heiko Kroger, from Germany, described it as a ‘sailing chess competition’.

The fleet was split after 5 races, into two fleets based on results, and our own Patrick Hassett was the winner of the highly sought after World Championship 2.4mR SilverFleet trophy after another 5 races.
He was also winner of the SilverFleet Youth and Para sections.

Patrick is already back out on the water in Dun Laoghaire applying his new skills for the remaining European competitions and looking forward to the World 2.4 mR Championships next year in Norway.

Congratulations, Patrick, on an outstanding achievement.
