This course is designed to prepare students for the Pre Entry assessment for becoming a dinghy instructor with Irish Sailing. It is a 2 days course. Sunday is a full day, Monday is a shorter day

TY VHF Courses 2025 – 2026

TY VHF Courses 2025 – 2026

The following dates are available to take the VHF course: 2025/2026

Mon     24th Nov

Sun      15th Feb
Wed    18th Feb

The course fee is €210 and includes the cost of taking the external examination and the issuing of their VHF license by the RYA. 

The certificate is issued by the RYA approx 4 weeks after the course is completed and the certificate is valid for life. The cert entitles the operator to use a vhf radio anywhere in the world and is therefore accepted by all dinghy sailing schools in Ireland who require their instructors to have competence in the operation of a VHF radio.

TY First Aid Courses – Nov 2025 / Feb 2026

TY First Aid Courses – Nov 2025 / Feb 2026

Our TY courses, delivered by Irish Offshore Sailing, are the RYA Marine First Aid Courses. They are valid for all Irish Sailing Dinghy instructors, and are valid for 3 years.

The course includes topics such as hypothermia, drowning, cold water immersion, vhf radio for medical emergencies and helicopter rescue, which defines it as a marine first aid course. 

The course starts at 0930 and finishes at 1600 with a break for lunch.
Students need to come in comfortable clothing with a pen and paper for notes. 

The 4 courses will take place in the National Yacht Club in the JB room downstairs.

The 2025-2026 dates for first aid are as follows:

Thurs   12th Feb 
Sat       14th Feb

JUNIOR TRAINING AUTUMN 2025

At the National YC, We run Autumn coached training on Saturday afternoons. In order to facilitate to the best of our ability possible other activities/sports, training starts at 13.00 with the daily briefing (rigged and ready unless stated otherwise by the coach) and finishes after debrief is completed around 17.00

As the number of coaches and the groupings directly depends on participation, it is important to get sailors commitment. The focus is to develop skills at the appropriate level of competencies and coaches will use drills appropriate to the level of the sailors, the variability of abilities and boats types. The overall aim is enjoyment, progress and cooperation. 

The classes supported by the club: Optimist, Dinghies (Topper, RS Feva, ILCA), Skiffs (29er and 49er FX)

The levels:
- RACE: Race training, EVERY SATURDAY starting on sept 6th and finishing Dec 13th : 300EUR Full programme of up to 13 sessions or 40/session
- PROGRESS: Small boat sailing scheme from Irish Sailing courses syllabus, EVERY SATURDAY starting on sept 6th and finishing Oct 26th: 150EUR Full programme (up to 7 sessions) or 40/session

Our Sailors Take On Mighty Challenges Across the World

This month, National Yacht Club members are making waves on the global stage. From the Clipper Round the World Race to the Mini Transat and La Solitaire du Figaro, our sailors are proudly representing the club.

Damian Payne (@teampowerofseattlesports ) and Brian Uniacke (@team.tongyeong.clipperrace ) have set sail on the first leg of the Clipper Round the World Race.

This Sunday, Tom Dolan (@tomdolanskipper ) begins his defence of the La Solitaire du Figaro title.

Later this month, Mark O’Connor (@marksmini650 ) will embark on his solo Mini Transat adventure.

Everyone at the National Yacht Club wishes them fair winds, safe passage, and every success.

Coaching for Optimist sailors, starting 7th September for Nippers and 14th for Racers!

We have an exiting programme of coaching for our Nippers, Nippers+ and Opis racing in the Junior September Series!

Nippers and Nippers+
Starts on Sunday 7th September and runs for 5 weeks to Sunday 5th October
Time: 13.30 to 16.00
Costs: €125 for the 5 weeks or €30 per 'a la carte' session

Coached September Series
Racing for the Junior September Series starts on Sunday 14th September and runs until 5th October.
Costs: €100 for the full series (4 weeks). A separate entry must be completed on the appropriate online entry form

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL DINGHIES MUST BE REMOVED ON SUNDAY 5TH OCTOBER AS THE ANNUAL KEELBOAT LIFT-OUT IS TAKING PLACE ON SATURDAY 11TH OCTOBER AND CRADLES WILL BE ARRIVING EARLY!!!!
