Platform Clearance for the Lift-in 2025!

Platform Clearance for the Lift-in 2025!

Dear Winter Platform Parking users.

The Winter Platform Parking Season is coming to an end on Sunday 6th April and we need a total platform clearance of all the dinghies and other types currently on the deck and / or on racks to make room for the lift-in which is scheduled for Saturday 12th April.

If your boat is not in use in one of the Club organised training anymore please make sure to come and collect it as soon as possible as the boathouse staff needs to reconfigure the platform well in advance of the lift-in and to reposition, or partially dismantle the racks used by the Opis, Toppers, Lasers and RS Aeros.

ALL dinghies must be removed by Sunday 6th April 18:00 at the very latest.

Please note that we do not have room to store any boat even temporarily on the Carlisle Pier until the platform reopens for the Summer parking season and cannot facilitate any such request.

The Committee is currently reviewing the demand for platform space from the various user groups this summer (junior dinghy sailors / adult dinghy sailors / single handed / 2 handed boats / keelboats dry sailing) and will have to limit the various classes of boats to strict numbers.

The Boathouse will allocate Parking Spaces on the Platform based on historic demand and any current assumptions that may impact that. This means that the number of parking spaces for each type of craft will be pre-determined and that a number of rounds of allocations based on priority rules soon to be published will take place successively.

The online summer platform parking application form will open on Friday 4th April from 18:00 for certain categories of membership-

For full details and the set of rules governing access to the Club platform this summer and to apply for platform parking, please visit: https://nyc.ie/summer-platform-parking-form/

Mark O’Connor – Mini Transat Speaker Supper & Fundraiser

Mark O’Connor – Mini Transat Speaker Supper & Fundraiser

The National Yacht Club is proud to host NYC Member Mark O'Connor for an insightful presentation on the upcoming Mini Transat, "Race for Orbis," followed by a special fundraising dinner.

Wednesday 14th May @ 19.30pm

At 26 Years old, Mark is the skipper and founder of MOC Ocean racing. He graduated with a Masters of Electronic & Computer Engineering from University College Dublin, and has always showed a passion for sports and the sea. He moved to France in 2023 to realise his dream of racing across the Atlantic Ocean solo as part of the ‘Mini Transat’ race in 2025.

Since moving to “Sailing Valley”, he has gained over 10,000 kilometres (5,000 Nm) with the Mini 6.50 class and immersed himself in the offshore sailing industry. This has allowed him to gain invaluable experience. He precipitated in the ‘Monnoyeur Duo For a Job’ 2024 VendĂ©e Globe Campaign, preparing their IMOCA for the round the world race.

Most importantly Mark is passionate about his project and determined to make his dream a reality.

After 2 years of hrad work, he has now qualified for the 2025 edition of the Mini transat!

Mark has now partnered with Orbis Ireland to launch the campaign “Race for Orbis”

Orbis Ireland, an independent affiliate of Orbis, has set an ambitious goal: to eliminate avoidable blindness in Ethiopia. Focusing on a region of over 4.5 million people—where the prevalence of blinding diseases like trachoma is among the highest globally—Orbis Ireland is tackling the three leading causes of avoidable blindness: trachoma, cataracts, and refractive error. Through a combination of hands-on medical training, telemedicine, and partnerships with local health systems, Orbis builds sustainable eye care programs that put treatment within reach for all.

You can donate to Marks charity GoFundMe here, donations will also be taken on the night.

Join us for an evening of adventure, inspiration, and support for a great cause.
