Quiz Update

The NYC’s winter quiz season kicked off again last Wednesday, when the regulars and the newcomers all packed into the dining room for a hectic table quiz.

The heat of the room must have got to the participants as the winning score, from perennial table-toppers Wizard, reflected a lowly 72% rate of correct answers. Well, either the heat or the particularity of the questions themselves!

Some competitors rose above the conditions. Following Wizard home were T.B.M. and Quiztopher Columbus, with the debutante two-woman team The Trenchers achieving a noteworthy 4th place finish. Stars Of The Sea completed out the placings and deserve a commendation for their orthography.

The next quiz will take place on Wednesday, the 5th November at 8.00pm sharp! All are welcome to join us for a fun evening – true or false?

Dun Laoghaire will be at the centre of World Sailing next month when over 400 international delegates come to town for their Annual week-long Conference.

This is a unique opportunity to showcase the facilities in Dun Laoghaire and to provide a warm Club Welcome to the international delegates from over 60 countries.  The delegates have been offered honorary membership of the National, Royal Irish and Royal St George yacht clubs.

The Conference schedule on HERE shows the full programme of meetings most of which are open to observers.  Sailors are encouraged to register and attend the sessions of interest to them. The activities are split between the hotel and the clubs.

Lake Garda 2.4 mR World Championships 2025

Lake Garda 2.4 mR World Championships 2025

The 2.4mR World Championship was held at Malcesine, Lake Garda from 9-12 October with 55 competitors.

For the first 3 days racing was held in the afternoon after the southerly wind filled in with the wind still very light for most of the racing. The most number of races and the overall event was won by Jeff Linton from USA, despite receiving a black flag disqualification (along with myself and a big chunk of the fleet) on the seventh race.

Megan and Urs finished second and third. On the final day of racing we started at 9am to catch the wind before it died as it always does at midday.

The wind was a good bit stronger and it was a lot choppier. Someone remarked to me afterwards that was the Garda everyone is always talking about.

Megan got a second and a first and ended up tied on points with Jeff, but Jeff won the event as he had more first places.

I finished 41st with my best races being 22, 23, 25 and 27. It was a great event to be part of and a great learning experience and I am looking forward to next year.
