Specialist Conservation Repair & Refurbishment

Specialist Conservation Repair & Refurbishment

The National Yacht Club is very proud of our heritage building but it requires specialist conservation repair and refurbishment from time to time.

As it is the quietest time of the year the NYC House Committee are taking this opportunity to tackle one of the larger projects on our to-do list; all of the timber sash windows to the Bar and some to the Dining Room and Kitchen are being repaired and refurbished at present by Maclyn Conservation Joinery who are conservation specialists in the repair and refurbishment of traditional timber sash windows.

This involves removing the timber sash windows for repair and reglazing off site. Plywood sheets will replace the window openings during this time. The timber window frames will also be stripped down in situ and repaired. This will cause some disruption, dust and draughts. When the newly repaired sashes return they will need a few weeks for the glazing putty to dry out before final painting so will not look very pretty until then.

The timeline is dependent on weather and glass supply and may take up to 6 weeks.

We appreciate your patience while we undertake this refurbishment.

Christmas Quiz Update

Christmas Quiz Update

Ho ho hole lotta fun was had on Wednesday night at the Christmas quiz dinner. Yule never believe who won. Well, you will believe, but that wouldn’t have worked as a pun. T.B.M. compounded their good early season form and their recent win, with another win ahead of erstwhile champions Wizard. The T.B.M. team must have studied hard on Christmas related topics because they scored 62 out of a total of 66 questions, a truly tremendous performance. The Salopettes got into the festive spirit with a much-improved return of 3rd  place, and Quiztopher Columbus and The Dirty Ruckers filled the remaining places.

In the standings for overall lead in the quiz series, Wizard continue to force the pace, but T.B.M. are effectively tied. A sobering up Corner Boys share 3rd place overall with Quiztopher Columbus. Tango get this weeks mention for a continued improvement in their showing.

The quiz will return on January 21st 2026. The Quizmaster would like to take this opportunity to wish Sara, Michael, all the club staff, and all the quiz participants a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous and joy-filled new year. Next year’s questions are already being crafted

Let there be light!

Let there be light!

Genisis 1:3 Let there be light  - and then John Corcoran appeared intent on improving the visage of our Balcony.

Gone are the circus lights.

Through John’s persistence, his fine design and incredible and very generous effort we now have a beautifully lit clubhouse. The work was completed today just in time to guide Santa to his favourite Club. Do make sure to visit and admire over the festive season.

Thank you John Corcoran

Regards
