Success for the NYC Topper Fleet in Cork – next stop, Blessington

May 9, 2019 | Junior events, Junior Sailing

A hardy bunch of Topper sailors went down to Cork as part of the overall NYC fleet attending the ISA Youth Nationals event in RCYC, and acquitted themselves very well despite the challenging conditions – a distinct excess of wind on Friday and Saturday, followed by the wind almost disappearing on Sunday!

Congratulations in particular to Jacques Murphy (RStGYC and part of the regular Dun Laoghaire Topper Group training) and Adam Irvin (NYC) who came in the top 6 of the main fleet (5.3m2 sail) and got into the Topper Squad.  Also congratulations to Becky Lowney (WHSTC) who is a regular attendee at the Topper Clinics in the NYC, and who also made the squad.  James Fitzgerald also made the top 10, with Ethan Spain not far behind in 14th.  The NYC was also successful in the smaller sail 4.2m2 rig fleet, with Ella Fitzgerald coming 3rd, and winning the 1st Lady prize for that fleet also.

The next outing for the Topper Sailors is the first one day “Traveller” event of the season in Blessington Sailing Club this Sunday, 12th May.  As entry numbers are limited for safety reasons, get your entries in quickly if you want to attend!
