Subaru to be NYC’s official “Vehicle Partner” for 2018/2019 including the Flying Fifteen Worlds in September 2019

Subaru to be NYC’s official “Vehicle Partner” for 2018/2019 including the Flying Fifteen Worlds in September 2019

The National Yacht Club is pleased to announce that Subaru have come on board as official "Vehicle Partner" for 2018/2019 and to include the Flying Fifteen Worlds in September 2019.

This partnership will run alongside our existing partners Davy.

At a recent launch of the partnership Commodore Ronan Beirne commented:
"The National Yacht Club is delighted to partner with Subaru as the club's "Vehicle partner" and for the Flying Fifteen World Championships to take place in September 2019. Subaru is a quality brand and to endorse the National Yacht Club as "Vehicle partner" and for the Flying Fifteen world championship hosted by the Club allows us to share the Subaru brand definition of  "confidence in motion" as our members enjoy sailing and as we prepare for the only World sailing Championships to take place in Irish waters in 2019"

Dun Laoghaire Youth Laser Coaching Programme; Autumn/Winter 2018

Dun Laoghaire Youth Laser Coaching Programme; Autumn/Winter 2018

The Dun Laoghaire Youth Laser training program will be run as a collaboration between RSGYC and NYC.

Mid-Term Laser Clinic 29th October – 2nd November

To Register, Please Click Here

We are fortunate to have two excellent local coaches head up the program: Conor O’Beirne will be running the 4.7’s and we have Nicole Hemeryck on the Radials. We intend grouping sailors to maintain a coach:sailor ratio of around 6 and expect to have around 3 groups in the 4.7’s and potentially 2 in the radials.

The program is designed for sailors who, at minimum, have competed in regional events (in any boat) and intend to participate in the regional laser circuit in 2019. The program will be managed by our coaches and they will be the first point of contact. The overall philosophy of the group is that it is sailor driven and not parent driven.

The program is open to all full and cadet members of either RIYC, RSGYC or NYC with boat parking paid.

National Yacht Club gets Sea Bin thanks to Flossie Donnelly

National Yacht Club gets Sea Bin thanks to Flossie Donnelly

National Yacht Club is Ireland’s first Club with a Sea Bin – thanks to Flossie Donnelly

Twelve-year-old environmental campaigner Flossie Donnelly has presented the National Yacht Club with one of her Sea Bin devises to help clean up the environs of the Club – and especially catch waste plastics which come in our direction when the Northerly winds blow.

The Sandycove campaigner and blogger already has a Sea Bin in operation in the main Dun Laoghaire harbour area and our one will be the second in the country.

Flossie presented Sea Bin to Vice Commodore Martin McCarthy who accepted on behalf of the club and with the support of Annalise Murphy – who is dedicated to the “Turn the Tide on Plastic” campaign, and whose boat she campaigned in the recent Volvo Ocean Race.

National Yacht Clubs David Gorman reaches All Ireland Helmsman’s Championship Final.

National Yacht Clubs David Gorman reaches All Ireland Helmsman’s Championship Final.

Representing the Flying Fifteen class at the Helmsmans Championships in Lough Ree at the weekend David Gorman, with Chris Doorly crewing, reached the final and finished a credible 7th overall in an extremely competitive fleet.

There were two flights of 8 boats on Saturday each with three races and the top three in each qualified for the final automatically. David had two thirds and an unfortunate retiral which meant he had to do the repechage qualifier on Sunday where there were two places in the final up for grabs. This he did by winning the race in very windy conditions.

The final was to be four short races but with the weather deteriorating only two were sailed. David got two fifths in the close racing but as the scores from Saturday were carried through he finished 7th overall. A great achievement in a top class fleet of Olympians and national champions in a boat he was unfamiliar with.

Many thanks to the SB20 class for lending their boats.
