NYC presented with ‘The Sue McDonnell Trophy’
Many of our members will remember very fondly Mrs. Sue McDonnell who joined the Club in 2002 when she and John Hall bought their Beneteau 31.7 '30 Something'.
In 2007 having sold the Beneteau she also co-owned the very successful J109 'Something Else' until her untimely death in 2014.
Sue started sailing out of Bray Sailing Club in the early sixties and was for many years, and still is, a role model for gender equality and active women participation in our sport.
In honour and in memory of his late wife and of her deep attachment to the Club, Mr. John McDonnell is presenting a new perpetual trophy to the NYC which, after an immediate unanimity between the Club's Committee and Sue's family and in a very befitting manner to her example, will now be presented to 'the Female club member who has contributed most to the advancement of women in sailing'
This new award is extremely timely as the NYC was selected to host the inaugural Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta this year and also the reconfirmed host in 2020.

Have your say on Foreshore Planning
On 12th November 2019, the Government launched their Consultation Draft of the National Marine Planning Framework (NMPF). Lead by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government (DHPLG), the draft document aims to create a âco-ordinated and coherent approach to decision-making and governanceâ in respect to marine planning. It includes planning for development proposals by sports, recreation and tourism bodies, which in turn covers the all-important Foreshore Licence.
