Platform Clearance

Platform Clearance

Dear Summer Platform Parking users.

The Summer Platform Parking Season is coming to an end and we need a total platform clearance of all the dinghies and other types currently on the deck to make room for the lift-out which is scheduled for Saturday 16th October.

If your boat is not in use in one of the Club organised training, anymore please make sure to come and collect it as soon as possible as the skeleton boathouse staff needs to reconfigure the platform well in advance of the lift-out to make room for cradles deliveries from Monday 11th October

ALL dinghies (optimists / Toppers / Lasers / Topaz / Vagos / 29ers / Fireballs / RS 400 / RS 200 etc...) must be removed by Sunday 10th October 18:00 at the very latest.

Please note that we do not have room to store any boat even temporarily on the Carlisle Pier and cannot facilitate any such request!

The Committee is currently reviewing the UNPRECEDENTED HIGH DEMAND for platform space from the various user groups this winter (junior dinghy sailors / adult dinghy sailors / single handed / 2 handed boats / keelboat winter storage) and will have to limit the various classes of boats to strict numbers. An online winter platform parking application form reflecting the fact that demand will outstrip supply will be issued shortly.

Sell your Sailing Gear

Sell your Sailing Gear

Dear members, we are hosting a ‘sell your sailing gear’ event on Sunday the 26th September from 2pm to 3pm under the balcony at the National Yacht Club.  The idea is to come along with the sailing items you no longer use or you have grown out of with a price attached and sell it to other members.  There will be tables and some hanging rails to display your items. If you want to donate clothes etc to the RNLI there will be a clothes bucket for these items.   We are looking forward to seeing you all then.

NYC Members’ End-of-Summer Charity Race, Thursday 9th September

We have a busy weekend coming up for the club hosting the ICRA National Championships this week from Friday to Sunday, with visiting boats arriving to our pontoon on Thursday.

Preparations are underway with Race Officer Larry Power to hold our annual End-of-Summer Season Charity Race next week on Thursday 9th September. The start will at the DBSC Hut on the West Pier, and signals will commence at 18:00 to allow for the shorter evening. Further details will be posted later.

It will be a welcome return for this event after missing out last year due to the Covid-related late start to the 2020 racing season. That in turn lead to the DBSC midweek series running until September 10th, and then there was an abrupt end to racing the following week when Covid-restrictions were re-imposed by the government.

This year’s Irish Laser National Championships was hosted by Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven, Cork from Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd of August. The 88 competitors across the 3 fleets battled in challenging conditions from very strong winds of 35 knots+ which almost flattened the fleet on Friday and racing was abandoned to no wind at all where racing had to be cancelled on the final day. The fleet managed 8 races in total which gave sailors one discard.
