EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR NYC’S DUN LAOGHAIRE TO DINGLE RACE
The National Yacht Club’s Volvo Dun Laoghaire to Dingle race starts on the dot of 6pm this coming Wednesday, when a record fleet of 45 boats will cross the start line just outside the harbour mouth.
The biennial event was founded by our late trustee, Martin Crotty and continues under the able chairmanship of Adam Winkelmann.
Topping this year’s entry is the superyacht Wind Fall, which has been shipped across the Atlantic for the event by skipper Michael Cotter.
In the past the D2D entry was a mixture of cruisers and racers but on Wednesday the racing brigade will be to the fore.
A small army of NYC Volunteers will be helping make the race happen. Principle Race Officer is Con Murphy, Principle Mark Layer is Dave Morley, Committee boat has been kindly provided by DBSC and operated by Ian Meldon, and Race monitoring is by Grainne Ryan. Sandra Moore, Cathy Mac Aleavy, and Suzie Barry run the race offices in Dun Laoghaire and Dingle respectively. To wrap it all up and contingent of the NYC Golf Society are heading to Alan Dooley’s course at Ceann Sibeal to host a social golf competition. The Vice Commodore will attend the prizegiving.
This year, for the first time the race is part of the RORC calendar – an important series in world sailing.
