NYC sailors take 2nd & 3rd & 1st Girl in the Irish Sailing All Ireland Junior Sailing Championships 2017

Oct 4, 2017 | Junior events, Junior Sailing

Three NYC sailors (Rian Geraghty-McDonnell, Loghlen Rickard, Leah Rickard) were invited to participate in the ISA All-Ireland Junior Helmsman competition in Schull. Each year – the best helms from each class of boat are invited to race in a two day event to determine the best junior helm in Ireland. As each sailor comes from a different boat class (the ages range from 13-18) – they all sail a special two-handed boat in the event to somewhat level the playing field. NYC sailors Nathan van Steenberge (crew for Loghlen Rickard) & Emily Cullen (crew for RCYC sailor Johnny Durcan) also participated as crews in the event. NYC sailors took 2nd and 3rd overall – and first girl! Results for NYC sailors:

  • 2nd place & ISA Silver Medal – Rian Geraghty-McDonnell (NYC)
  • 3rd Place & ISA Bronze Medal  – Loghlen Rickard (NYC) with crew Nathan Van Steenberge (NYC)
  • 5th Place – Johnny Durcan (RCYC) with crew Emily Cullen (NYC)
  • 12th place & First Girl – Leah Rickard (NYC)
