Help Preserve the Legacy of the National Yacht Club

Help Preserve the Legacy of the National Yacht Club

Help Preserve the Legacy of the National Yacht Club

Established in 1870, the National Yacht Club has been a cornerstone of the sailing community for over 150 years. Through wars, storms, and even two devastating fires, we have endured — but much of our physical history has been lost.

Now, we’re setting our course for the future by creating a Digital Archive to preserve the rich legacy of our Club — not just for us, but for the sailors of tomorrow. We want future generations to look back and revel in the memories, the camaraderie, and the traditions we hold dear today.

We are proud to count third- and fourth-generation sailors among our members. Let’s ensure that the seventh and eighth generations can see what their ancestors got up to at the NYC — their races, their celebrations, their stories, and their spirit.

We Need Your Help!
We’re calling on all members, past and present, to help rebuild our history. If you have any of the following, we would love to see it:

  • Photographs – regattas, races, and Club life
  • Photographs - social events and outings
  • Newspaper clippings or published articles
  • Old Club memorabilia – flags, pins, programs, trophies, or uniforms
  • Invitations, event flyers, menus, or race results
  • Personal stories – even if you don’t have photos, your memories matter. Write a little story for us.
  • Letters or journals that mention Club activities

Dig into those dusty albums, look through those attic boxes, and help us bring our shared heritage back to life.

How to Contribute
Please email scanned images, documents, or written stories to photos@nyc.ie

If you have physical items you'd like us to scan or photograph, contact Edel in the office and we’ll arrange a safe way to do so.

Together, we can ensure that the legacy of the National Yacht Club continues to sail strong for another 150 years — and beyond.

Let’s tell our story, together.
