Volvo Irish Sailing Awards 2017

National Yacht Club is ‘Mitsubishi Motors Sailing Club of the year 2018’
The National Yacht Club of Dun Laoghaire â founded in 1870 â has long been one of Irelandâs leading sailing clubs in sporting competition inshore and offshore, while at the same time retaining a friendly, hospitable and âcan-doâ attitude to other sailors, and to the broader community with which it interacts ashore writes W M Nixon.
Yet even by its own high standards, the Club is currently on a wave of success, building on member Annalise Murphyâs Olympic Silver Medal of 2016 such that in 2017, under the engaging leadership of Commodore Ronan Beirne, the National has progressed through a golden year.
Baltimore early-bird deadline extended to 10pm Friday the 12th January
The deadline for availing of the early-bird discounted entry for Baltimore Spring Training Week has been extended to 10pm Friday the 12th January.
This year sees the beginning of a revamping of the Baltimore Spring Camp with the goal of making it the premier Optimist training event in the Irish sailing calendar. A feature of this plan sees IODAI investing in enhancing the quality of the training at all levels. More structured training programmes will ensure that a higher level of skills will be acquired by all sailors. Performance sailors will benefit from more focused coaching, while an increased number of senior coaches will ensure that all sailors benefit from the expertise they bring. Main features include:

Finn Lynch is Afloat.ie Sailor of the month for December
We are delighted to congratulate Finn Lynch on winning Afloat.ie âOptimist Sailor of the Monthâ for December
Finn Lynch (21) of the National Yacht Club is the Afloat.ie âSailor of the Monthâ (Olympic) on the strength of his Silver in the Lasers in the Gran Canaria Olympic Week in mid-December, sailing nine races in light to medium conditions. In a major event which was promoting Gran Canariaâs ambitions to become known as European Sport Island, Lynch successfully availed of the opportunity to up his game after intense training.
