Eight Flying Fifteen Travel to Ballyholme for East Coast Championships – Report

May 24, 2018 | Racing

Eight Flying Fifteens from the NYC  travelled to Ballyholme at the weekend for the first regional event of the season and it was also the first qualifying event for the World Championships that will be hosted by the NYC next year.

There were five races in testing conditions of probably an average of twenty knots. After three races on Saturday the fleet were exhausted and many were busy doing repair work but the club BBQ and hospitality cheered everyone up as did the visit and tour of the adjacent RUYC that dates back over 150 years. Overnight there were four NYC boats in the top ten with David Gorman & Chris Doorly leading.

Sunday brought even stronger winds and after a short delay racing got under way. Andy & Rory Martin (SLYC) won the first race of the day from Dave Gorman in second to retake control of the event after a retiral on the first day. Green & Baker had a great day and moved up to fifth overall. Mathews and Poole had an interesting event with Ian constantly having to retrieve Keith from the water after he failed to connect with his toe straps!
