Wexford Harbour boat and tennis club hosted the 2021 Connaught laser Championships on two very hot and sunny days with light breezes proving challenging for sailors.

Forty-six boats raced in the 4.7 Laser division, the largest seen for many years and the club was represented by 4 sailors, Christian Ennis, Ella Dempsey, Michael Byrne and Caoimhe Seymour.
A strong finish on Sunday saw both Christian Ennis and Ella Dempsey finish in positions, 7^th and 12^th respectively. This event is the final racing opportunity and warm up before the 4.7 Worlds which is being hosted from the NYC and in conjunction with the RSGYC in Dunlaoghaire.

The Club will be represented by four of our 4.7 sailors, Christian, Ella, Dylan DeVreeze and Michael at the event and we wish them well.

After almost one year off the race course, NYC’s 29er sailors travelled to Crosshaven with great determination to take part in the 2021 AIB 29er national Championships 3-4 July.

The two-day event was a success: sailing conditions were better than forecast with little rain and most of the ten-race series was held in 12-15 knots on the Curlane Bank, Cork Harbour. Winds were shifty though, and with six races back-to-back covering over 60km of distance on Saturday and four races on Sunday, the sailors’ fitness and stamina were truly tested. The fifteen-boat 29er fleet is growing steadily and NYC’s representatives did their club proud.

The Provident CRM Optimist Leinsters were held this year at Howth Yacht Club in a fresh breeze with over 60 + competitors.
Representing the club were several sailors and best placed was Ava Ennis (pictured) in senior fleet.
Ava finished strong on both days achieving a 3^rd place finish on Saturday and improving again on Sunday, taking a 2^nd place to finally finish at the top of the leader board in 5^th place overall and 2nd placed girl.

Six races were run during the event over the two-day period and winds stayed fresh throughout.

All NYC Sailors finished with strong placings, Kate Flood, Grace Gavin and Marie Butler. A special mention must go to James Gorman who at only eleven years of age finished in 32^nd place overall and within the top 10 Juniors, fantastic result James, very well done.
